Silverstone Wing

Name of project:

Silverstone Wing

Client:

View it 360

Solutions:

Composite CGI

Challenge:

Working in collaboration with Matterport service provider View it 360, we were set the task of creating an annotated CGI from an imported 3D scan of the huge Silverstone hospitality wing at the home of the British grand prix. The wing itself is nearly quarter of a mile long so the Matterport scan data provided by View it 360 was naturally large too in terms of level of detail and complexity of geometry. The brief was to show the wing in a dolls house style view in its live race day environment with annotation detailing each separate event space within the wing.

What we did:

We started the process of creating the artwork by importing the huge scan data in sections to keep the 3D scene manageable in terms of load times on our workstation. As each section was imported, unwanted artefacts from the scan were cleaned up and the front of the building removed to open the structure in to the desired dolls house style. You can see the raw scan data in the top half of the split image in the gallery.

Once cleaned up, geometry was then added to the building in keeping with its appearance in reality including the roof, pit garages and podium area. Once happy with this we could then add the track and pit lane with finishing touches including the speeding Ferrari and Red Bull F1 cars.

The image was then rendered at high resolution before final post-production. This involved a large amount of retouching in Photoshop before adding annotation and branding where appropriate to complete the image.
